President's Message

Welcome to the Washington-Alaska Chapter of HFMA! Believe to Achieve is the national theme selected by Greg Adams, the 2011 – 2012 HFMA National Chairman. Greg shared his theme and vision for this year at the HFMA Annual National Institute in June. I found his message and encouragement directly relevant to our chapter.

Just as many of you are facing numerous challenges and opportunities at your work; HFMA is also dealing with the same. We have significant changes in our industry and we sense a growing thirst for information. Education, more than ever, needs to be provided timely, efficiently and cost-effectively. Based on direct member feedback, our strategic initiatives for this year include the following:

1. Continue to improve the selection of topics and variety of speakers at chapter events.
2. Address the geographic challenges of providing education to chapter members.
3. Increase the availability and type of networking opportunities for chapter members.

As I think about our initiatives, it seems daunting at times to achieve them; while recognizing many chapter members are struggling to balance home, work and volunteer commitments. That said, I continue to be impressed by the talents and efforts of our chapter volunteers. Your 2011 – 2012 chapter leaders are committed to serve you and to continue improving this chapter.

Education lies at the heart of HFMA. Our National vision is: “To be the indispensable resource for healthcare finance.” I believe we can achieve this through the efforts of many. Thank you again, for the opportunity to serve you this year as your chapter President.
