President's Message

President's Message

A message from our Chapter President

Courage To Make A Difference” is our national theme this year, developed by HFMA’s National Chairwoman Mary Beth Briscoe.

As President of the Washington / Alaska Chapter of HFMA, I plan to make “Courage to Make A Difference” a central part of our efforts.  Working in healthcare, we all experience- on a daily basis- situations at our organizations in which we have to make difficult decisions. It is not always easy to do the right thing, but with the great responsibility of our positions and with so many in our communities dependent on our efforts, each of us has to rise to the highest standards of competence and integrity.

Courage and leadership are not easily defined, but like character, we all recognize it over time. When we are young, we expect that big decisions, dramatic choices, will come to us. Instead, age and wisdom show us that character is demonstrated in countless small interactions and in decisions consistently expressed over many years.

As one of 69 local Chapters that are part of an organization with a national membership of more than 34,000 healthcare financial management professionals, we have a tremendous array of resources to access with HFMA. But we can only be effective for our members, if the members are active, informed and engaged. We all need to take advantage of the expertise of our fellow Chapter members. We have the opportunity- and obligation- to learn from each other.

Please join me in being actively involved in your Chapter.  I am proud to lead such a fine group of dedicated, hardworking healthcare professionals. I look forward to continue working with each of you to have the  “Courage To Make A Difference”.
